What is happening to us?

The world has gone into a real tailspin. Trump has cause so much chaos and uncertainty from the White House. Putin and Russia are trying to steal land from Ukraine, meanwhile Ukraine is taking more control of the Kursk region. China is flexing its muscles in the Pacific. Now India and Pakistan are trading blows again.

Stupid stuff, all of this. Trump has re-opened the trade wars with China, an incredibly dumb move. Why? His claims of “being ripped off” ring hollow when considering that the US us the world’s largest consumer market. The other side of that is the the US is also the world’s largest capital exporter. A lot of the money that capital returns to the US in the form of profits, which go to providing the funding for the US to remain the world’s largest consumer.

Trump has a habit of doubling down on shit. He makes a stupid comment one day then when it becomes obvious that it is a stupid statement, he just reiterates it, and says something just as stupid or outrageous, or something that is totally incomprehensible. He is losing it, for sure. I wonder how much longer with his fans, MAGA and Republican, will deny it.

The rest of the world is looking on in complete amazement. Trump is pointing a .45 at the US and pulling the trigger at every opportunity he gets. When you think that Trump couldn’t get any more stupid, he just tops his last stupidity with something else that is even more stupid. There are so many examples of this I could throw a dart, while blindfolded, at random papers or magazines and hit an article describing things are no different and have a stupid explanation about them

“The best parts of the economy are Trump’s, the worst parts are Biden’s.” What? There is usually a lag time, for sure, The NYSE was on a high on the 20th of January, but by the end of April had experienced one of the most rapid declines since 1929. So how does that equate to Biden’s economy? He treats everyone with a great deal of contempt when he does this and yet he is not called out on it. Why?

This is an old trick of bullies. Call them on it and they get all butch on their challenger. Everyone knows it’s bullshit, but they won’t stand up to him. Cowards, the lot of them.

In the meantime, there is an groundswell of resistance. That resistance is not getting a lot of airtime outside of social media, though, and that is definitely not a good thing.

Trump is trampling all over the Constitution, and the push back he has been getting is only encouraging him to stomp even harder. The actions of ICE are not just deplorable, they are also illegal, but so far, they have not been stopped. The creation of DOGE and allowing it to operate how it did was again, illegal, but no-one stood up against it.

This was certainly the intent of the Heritage Foundation, using the strategies outlined by Steve Bannon. “Flooding the zone” he called it. That means doing so many different illegal things at the same time and weakening any opposition by not allowing them to organize sufficiently well enough to focus on one or two things effectively.

Trump has issued 143 Executive Orders between Jan 20 and May 1, many of which are, if considered individually, actually Executive Overreach, illegal or just plain stupid. For example, EO 14248: Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections is huge Executive overreach. Article I, Section 4 of the Constitution gives States the authority to determine the “times, places and manner” of how elections are run. The Executive does not have the power to overrule the Constitution, and I’d expect a challenge to that EO would be forthcoming. Whether SCOTUS has the integrity to uphold the Constitution is yet to be determined.

One illegal EO would have to be EO 14222: Implementing the President’s “Department of Government Efficiency” Cost Efficiency Initiative. (As well as EO 14219, EO 14210 and EO 14158.) Superficially, it would appear there is nothing wrong in this order, but the reality is that creating a new Government Department is a Congressional responsibility, not an Executive function. In creating DOGE and allowing it free rein, the “employees” of DOGE have, at no point been employed as government workers. They have not been checked, not been cleared for security, they are, apparently, not even paid by the Administration. This leaves them illegally accessing Government systems, illegally terminating employees, and what’s worse, illegally tampering with government computer systems. They should all be arrested and face charges of malfeasance on a grand scale.

Perhaps the most stupid of these EOs has been those EOs that deal with tariffs. There are a number of them, I won’t list them all here, but there has also been the EOs cutting funding to the IRS, the FBI, CIA, and a number of other Departments. These are seriously dumb because there was no review of these Department’s operations, and this has caused a number of security issues to arise. For example, one such organization so hit was the office that keeps track of US nuclear weapons and materials. Seriously dumb.

Trump himself has shown he has gotten worse since 2020, his word salads are rambling even more than they were before, his obvious lack of understanding of the role of the President, like he has sworn to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, but doesn’t seem to think he has to uphold it. Well, preserving and protecting means what? Defending implies a great deal, but none of these things seem to impinge on Trump’s consciousness.

I can only hope that Trump is removed from office as soon as possible before he does too much damage. The problem then is the line of succession devolves to the Vice President, JD Vance. While not as dumb as Trump, he could pose a much, much bigger danger. We shall see if, and likely when, it happens.

    Gday Colin

In my meanderings around cyberspace I have come across https://colinfraser.org/. Given that it is unlikely there are two very similar Colin Frasers, I reckon this must be you.

And when I read your “I claim my right to be a contrarian” everything fell into place!!!!! Congratulations on your blog – quality debate is sadly lost in the modern world, so keep it up.

Are you still pursuing your Masters and/or PhD? You have my intense admiration for even planning it later in life.

Take care, and let me know when you have time for a coffee to share thoughts and wisdom. Jim
